A guide to the Hauraki Gulf.There have been ferries on the Hauraki Gulf since European settlement began, and they have become more and more essential with the spreading of the city to distant peninsulas and islands. The Hauraki Gulf lies between the Auckland and Coromandel peninsulas and its many remarkable islands, mainland coves, beaches, cliffs and settlements offer unlimited delights through a series of expeditions and voyages of exploration all of which may be embarked upon from the Downtown ferry berth or other departure points in Auckland.
